The Transformation When Clients Trust the Process

When these clients came to Zen Reno & Design for their Jacksonville Beach whole home renovation, they had a clear vision for how they wanted their forever home to feel: clean, neutral, sophisticated, and fairly minimal.

My job was to give them that feeling without letting the design fall flat.

THE KITCHEN TRANSFORMATION

Throughout the home, we layered warm wood tones, natural materials, subtle patterns, and texture into the neutral palette. Details like botanical wallpaper and terrazzo flooring in the primary bathroom and woven lighting in the kitchen added personality while still keeping everything feeling refined and cohesive.

Because this was their forever home, we also had the freedom to design around their lifestyle rather than convention or resale. With limited space in the kitchen, they chose to forgo a dishwasher so we could incorporate a wine refrigerator, something they would get far more use out of. In the primary bathroom, we opted for a single sink instead of the expected double vanity, allowing us to create a dedicated makeup area that better suited how the space would actually be used.

Those are some of my favorite design decisions. Not because they’re unconventional for the sake of being different, but because they make the home distinctly theirs.

Throughout the process, my clients were incredibly receptive to new ideas and trusted me to push the design beyond what they might have envisioned on their own. At the end of the project, they told me, “We never would have picked any of this ourselves, but we absolutely love it.”

 And that really sums up one of my favorite parts of what I do.

Hiring a designer isn’t just about having someone select beautiful things. It’s about having someone understand your vision, then show you possibilities you may not have considered and bring them together in a way that still feels completely like you.

Their trust gave me the creative freedom to do exactly that. They loved the finished home so much that after the renovation design was complete, they brought me back to help with furnishings and add those final layers that make a home feel truly finished.

The result is a home that feels warm, intentional, personal, and entirely their own.
